Our Approach

HIRDA develops interventions and programs to build a stronger and more resilient population in the Horn of Africa. We are agile in our response to the most pressing global issues of today, including COVID- 19 and climate change.

We work in collaboration with the Federal Government, state governments (Jubaland, Galmudug, Hirshabelle, South West,  and Banadir) United Nations organisations, civil society, and local communities across a number of sectors and industries.

Through its strategic and operational objectives, HIRDA Somalia aims to create sustainable impact in the targeted communities.

HIRDA Medium and Long-term Strategic Objectives

To increase literacy rates and school enrolment through providing accessible primary education, vocational training and literacy classes for boys & girls and men & women.

To empower the women by strengthening their social and financial position in the community.

To develop young men and women, the so-called ‘lost generation’ by providing informal education and creating job opportunities.

To reduce maternal and child mortality by providing basic Mother and Child Health Care.

Reduce mortality from preventable causes by promoting immunisation through cold chain operations.

To strengthen malaria control and health systems.

To build internal capacity and government counterparts for the implementation of interventions.

To promote gender equality and affirmative action.

To provide relief services (e.g., food, shelter, water) to internally displaced people.

To increase financial and social remittances by local communities, individuals and organisations.

Operational Objectives:

  1. Strengthen HR,  Financial  and  administration systems  for  effective delivery of results in a transparent, accountable
  2. Enhance project management, implementation and M&E capacity for improved project performance.
